Is it possible to breastfeed after breast reduction surgery?
Women undergoing breast reduction are often concerned as to whether they will be able to breastfeed following treatment. This is partly dependent upon the operative method of breast reduction performed, the extent of tissue to be resected (removed), and the management of ducts and nerves. Will I be able to breastfeed following my breast reduction? Breastfeeding is often possible, following the procedures, and whilst attempting to retain all the milk producing tissue, ducts, nerves and nipple relationship, surgeons aim to do this as safely as possible. The amount of milk a woman can produce may, however, be affected. Some women can feed completely with breast milk, others require supplementary feeding.
